Description

There is little doubt you’ve seen the impact LED lighting has made with taillights, side marker lights, and even interior lighting on classic cars, but now manufacturers have brought the same great benefits that have made other LED conversion so popular to the headlights. Brighter lights, improved reliability, easy installation, and reduced power consumption are just a few of the great benefits of converting to LED headlights, but the folks at United Pacific Industries continue to raise the bar, adding great looks to the list of reasons to make the switch.

We joined acclaimed Mustang restorer Bob Wilson at RJ Restorations in Farmington, MN, as he set out to upgrade a mildly customized 1969 Ford Mustang 428ci Mach 1 with a new set of LED lights. Bob says most of his customers come to him seeking his expertise in recreating every detail of a Ford Mustang just as it left the factory, but some of his clients have great classics they just want to drive, and for any modification that improves the safety and reliability of these great rides, he’s happy to offer his services.

Wilson acknowledges he kind of looked down on LED lighting at the onset, as there was simply a lot of junk out there. But from the moment he opened the packages on the new United Pacific LED lights, he was blown away by the overall quality of the product.

1969 was the only year the Mustang was offered with the four-headlight system, and from the look of this ride with the new LED headlights installed with the distinctive LED parking light strip, Ford might have changed their minds if LED had been available at the time. Follow along as Bob upgrades this classic Mustang with LED headlights, and without a lot of effort transforms the look and character of this distinctive ride.
