Windshield Washer Pump Rebuild

Mark Simpson
Duration:   3  mins

Description

It’s not uncommon at many car shows to see plenty of cars with a windshield washer pump that no longer functions. Those tell tale signs of an inoperable pump include missing hose lines, broken fittings, and even the electrical unplugged. Thankfully, our friends at Original Parts Group, Inc. have all the correct reproduction parts to restore these pumps, and with just a little effort, you’ll be seeing things a lot clearer.

The GM wiper motor and washer pump. You know, were the same in the sixties and seventies, you know, little change throughout the years whether it's a Impala or a Chevelle or even a Camaro. And one of the problems with these pumps is these lines notoriously break. But when they break, you know there's a kits available to actually fix these, you know we went to OPGI and we were able to source a kit that gave us a both a replacement block for this style. And in the kit, they include, you know a different style that, you know maybe a little more low profile. I'm sure they make the kit universal to fit whatever car you have. And it includes all the seals and the gaskets and even new screws. You know, to rebuild, one of these pumps only takes a few minutes and you'll have her back working again. So let's get started. You know, it shouldn't matter if we could have done this in the car but it's easier to show you out here on the bench. There's four screws that hold the top of this pump assembly together. It's just a matter of pulling this off this there's actually two parts to this one is this inner seal. And then the top part here, and then there's a gasket. And so just remove all of that. You know, you want to do a good inspection in here make sure there's nothing wrong make sure it's got a good clean surface. After you get that cleaned up. You know, the kit from OPGI comes with all the new seals and everything else. The great thing about it is they also have a good set of instructions. It shows, you know, in case you, you know something's been changed or put together incorrectly on your car, you can always like, you know refer to that and make sure that, you know, the as you're assembling the pump that goes back exactly the way you want it. There is just said, oh, rings it goes in here. And then the top block once all that is in position we can put in our screws there. Okay. You can see that, you know, the process to actually rebuild the squirter pump on your washer motor it only takes a few minutes, you know and then with a good kit, like those offered by OPGI. I also known as Original Purchase Group. You know you gotta have everything you need to get the job done get your windshield clean again.
